Look Du Jour: Head to Toe

The day started with a sweet beauty episode, as I got to play with my leftover curls from the Beau Monde Society event & my new favorite lipstick found in the event swag bag courtesy of Motives Cosmetics. FUN! And what do I style with my frothy hair & flirty lips? The most rustic outfit I've worn in months, of course! Ha! What can I say...I love juxtaposition! After weeks of unpacking & rediscovering old faves, it was a welcomed change. And a new fashion frontier for yours truly...
I have always felt a bit apprehensive about head to to toe denim/chambray ensembles- usually dismissing it to the "Kate Moss only" category. But I was feeling quite bold & suddenly decided it was now or never. Not having worn denim in months, I was thrilled to dust these high waist babies off & take em out for a spin!
I was looking forward to wearing the ensemble as is, but NYC weather had another plan in mind, so layer I did. No need to fret, this head to toe look will have it's day in the sun...it's just not today.
As I post this I realize you may recognize the chambray button down from last month's anniversary Tour de Brooklyn post. And I can promise you will be seeing more of it. I love this top- so versatile & fun- I want to wear it with everything!
Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

Beau Monde Society's Retrocletic Launch

Oh yes, the night really was as delicious as it sounds, living up to every expectation one would have of a fashion launch event with a retro twist, down to the signature cocktails and similarly themed cupcakes- a "Grace Kelly" cupcake with your champagne infused cocktail, "The Audrey," perhaps? And what better venue to do it in than in the multi-level chic and vibey, Le Souk Harem, with their yummy full dinner AND hookah menu. Huzzah!
A huge thank you is in order to our lovely hostess- pictured below- Beau Monde Society founder & CEO, Jennifer Nnamani for having us! It is both greatly refreshing and inspiring to see such an intelligent, beautiful, and genuine woman bringing positive enlightenment to the fashion industry. Can't wait to see what she'll do next, starting with next week's fashion show! Go here for more on this stunning game changer and her business ventures.

Lisa of Phoenix Aficionado was my best dressed of the night with a truly retro frock- complete with draping along the front and a slight train, a'la '50s. Best part? It's actually an '80s thrift store find she had altered. Once again, the power of thrift prevails!

Nothing beats a well dressed man...
except one who is accompanied by the likes of this glamour puss!

Above are the shoes I had packed before realizing they would not fit in my bag alongside my camera. To my dismay, walking in heels- as I have been since my early teens- 'tis not the same as walking in heels in NYC! C'est la vie!

Spring To- Do's

Spring has officially graced New York City with her sparkly presence! That in mind, here's are a couple of my spring to do's =)
  • Go au naturale! No offense to those who wear makeup to the gym, but spring is the perfect time to let those pores breathe and let your dewy skin resurface. Same can be said with our hair. Not being a daily- or even weekly- makeup wearer myself, I'm committing to putting the iron down & giving my hair the occasional break, letting my natural texture have a go.
  • Find a fun new lip color! I always love bright pinks & corals & it looks like the love affair continues this spring..
  • Play dress up ♥ Yes, winter time is rife with costume opportunities, but don't sleep on spring! Movie debuts (Great Gatsby, anyone?), season premieres- like my Megan Draper ensemble worn for last nights return of Mad Men- & social events are all chances to get gussied up.
  • Create your own spring time mani!! My Margo (formerly known as Marie Goetz) mani got rave ratings about town & is still going strong ten days later! And if you think we had fun with our nails during the winter time- imagine the kicks we'll get introducing spring & summer colors back into our repertoire?! Fun, fun, fun!

Happy Sunday!

Everybody knows how much I LOVE my Sunday, Fundays!! They just seem to be filled with a certain celebratory spirit! While today is a touch on the cozy side with me playing dress up & my husband working on his latest project- fixing up my dearly departed NannaB's old '60s record player- I decided to share some pics from last Sunday.

March 3, 2013 marked our six year wedding anniversary & we couldn't be happier! The day was filled with all the things we love about our new home- Brooklyn, NY- including breakfast at Shane's, Brooklyn Flea hosted in it's gorgeous winter venue, macaroons & hot chocolate in Dumbo, sunset & watching the city light up at the Brooklyn Bridge, lovely candlelit din in Cobble Hill, & finally, celebratory drinks & dancing to our favorite jukebox tunes at Sunset Park's Irish Haven! It was absolute perfection & felt like a highlight reel of amazing things to come. This is definitely my kind of fairy tale <3

A quick beforehand apology for the quality of these pictures & not posting all week! My camera went to tech heaven the same week I decided to start my blog- can you believe it?! Haha! Ah well, such is life..more pics to come, I PROMISE!

Having been out from breakfast to last call, I decided to keep my ensemble casual because you never know what adventure- or the weather- might bring. So the day called for my black velvet, high waist trousers, studded chambray button up, & anorak jacket with assorted jewelry. Here are some pics, enjoy!

Update: sorry about the picture sizing & such..still getting used to this whole blogging thing!

Think Spring

This week has been such a blur of fun- with this weekend looking to be even better- that I almost didn't realize it was the first day of March. Huzzah! I adore the month of March! Not only is it the month that ushers in the beloved Spring season, it always marks the celebration of my Wedding Anniversary <3

As my husband & I wandered & window shopped the Brooklyn streets today, I saw a sign posted on a door exclaiming, "THINK SPRING!" Indeed.
And Amelie's fashion illustrations are just the thing!

Veni, Vidi

I came, I saw, I created.

Who: Veronica Cruz, wife, daughter, sister, friend, addict, & recent NEW YORK IMPORT

What: a fashion blog, a diary of sorts, showcasing my newest adventure & intense love (addiction) for all things fashion, style, aesthetic, vintage/ thrift, & that which inspires, pleases, or maybe just amuses me!

When: forever<3

Where: NYC, about town, at home, in my mind, etc etc

Why: As a source of inspiration, a journal of personal evolution, & an outlet. Anyone this obsessed knows there are never enough friends, relatives, or husbands to gush to about that latest thrift score, newest vintage shop, or next season's amazing lookbooks. I mean let's face it, there are very few people in the "real world" who would appreciate these things quite like a fellow fashion lover. Also, I have been so inspired by other bloggers, I felt the need to contribute- however small that contribution may be- to such an amazing community! It is a world I will be proud to be a part of.

How: As prettily as possible, always ;)

I'd like to give a HUGE thank you to Marie F. & the Retail Action Project team for inspiring & educating me & the rest of the retail/blogging community! It's not often you find genuine support of this magnitude. THX, RAP Team :)
more to come...
